Bill Gates, who is already one of the richest men in the world, does not owe all his fortune to Microsoft, as he has multiple investments in companies such as FedEx and Walmart, but there is one that stands out for the initial investment it was.
It is his Lake Washington mansion, bought in 1988 for just two million dollars, something that has multiplied over time, now worth about 130 million, as he has turned it into a luxurious playground.
The house, called Xanadu 2.0, in reference to the film ‘Citizen Kane’, has 6,131 square meters with six kitchens, 24 bathrooms, a trampoline room, indoor swimming pool, sports courts and sauna, as well as multiple bedrooms.
Since 2021, when his 27-year marriage to Melinda French Gates ended, the tycoon has said he will continue to live in a large house: “My house in Seattle, I admit, is gigantic. My sisters moved to a smaller house. I can’t. I like the houses I have. My kids like to come back, that’s a luxury. I don’t cook, I don’t make my own bed, but I don’t care if no one makes it, I wouldn’t notice,” he told Time magazine.

The 69-year-old millionaire is more than comfortable with his home. First, because of the value it has reached after being bought for just two million, but also because of the comfort he finds in it.
He invested a total of $63 million and seven years of remodeling to make it completely to his liking. In fact, in 2008, Melinda described the house as “a bachelor’s dream and a bride’s nightmare,” in Fortune magazine.
