Caleb Plant lost to Canelo and then beat Anthony Dirrell, but then fell victim to David Benavidez, and today he was questioned about the potential winner between a David vs Canelo duel. “Both fighters have their advantages that will play in their favour,” he said.
“Obviously David has good momentum, he’s the bigger guy, he throws a lot of punches and has a good frame,” Plant said of David Benavidez’s strengths, which could be his arguments to beat Canelo in a hypothetical fight.
But it was not all praise for Benavidez, he also dedicated a few words of encouragement and praise for the Mexican. “Canelo has the level of experience, among other things, his IQ in the ring, his command in the ring and things like that”.
Benavidez still without a chance to fight Canelo
Benavidez got tired of waiting for his chance against Canelo and moved up to light heavyweight for his latest fight. He got the win over former champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk by a wide unanimous decision, but he could well move down to super middleweight to face Saul.
The ‘Mexican Monster’ had to decide whether to drop back down to 168 to try and enforce his WBC mandatory position for Canelo or stay at 175 to be first in line to face the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol. His father has now revealed that he sent a letter to the WBC and they are hoping they will order a clash with Canelo sooner rather than later.
