Chaeyoung, a member of the globally successful K-pop group Twice, has apologized for wearing a T-shirt featuring a swastika.
The 23-year-old posted a photo of herself wearing the shirt on Instagram, but quickly deleted it after backlash from fans. The shirt featured an image of Sid Vicious, bassist of the Sex Pistols, wearing a swastika logo.
This is not the first time a K-pop artist has been involved in a Nazi logo controversy. In 2018, members of BTS were pictured wearing a hat and a T-shirt featuring swastikas and eagle logos. In 2021, a member of GFriend was photographed hugging a Nazi mannequin, while a member of Purple Kiss was pictured wearing a swastika in a military-themed photoshoot.
Controversy comes in same week Chaeyoung wore QAnon crop Top during a performance
In Chaeyoung’s case, it was her second clothing-related controversy of the week.
She also performed in a crop top featuring an American flag with the slogan “where we go one, we go all,” a phrase associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory.
Twice, which consists of nine members, has enjoyed crossover success outside of South Korea since their debut in 2015, with four of their albums reaching the US Top 10.
Chaeyoung apologized for the incident, saying, “I deeply apologize for not thoroughly reviewing it, causing concern. I will pay absolute attention in the future to prevent any situation similar from happening again.”
