In a recent interview on BBC radio’s “Desert Island Discs,” main star Cillian Murphy made it clear he’s on board to reprise his role.
“I’ve always said that if there is more story to tell, and if Steve Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver because he’s such a phenomenal writer, I’ll be there,” Murphy said.
“I mean, if we want to watch like, 50-year-old Tommy Shelby [laughs], let’s do it.”
Details about the film are scarce, but Knight mentioned finalizing the script with shooting expected to start in mid-2024. Describing it as “the same but different,” Knight hinted at unexpected twists.
The series finale saw Tommy Shelby grappling with the rise of fascism and his own illness, leaving the Shelby family fractured.
With Tommy’s past as a World War I veteran shaping his character, speculation abounds regarding the film’s plot.
Given Murphy‘s commitment to the project, fans can anticipate his return as Tommy Shelby in what promises to be an intriguing continuation of the “Peaky Blinders” saga.
