US entertainment site TMZ announced the separation of WWE wrestlers Lana and Rusev, as the wrestler confirmed the news and described it as an amicable split.
“We reached out to Perry, formerly known as Lana in WWE, who confirmed the split. ‘Miro and I have made the difficult decision to part ways after many wonderful years together, and have decided to move forward as friends and hopefully as on-screen characters at some point,’ CJ (Lana) told us,” TMZ read.
“As for what went wrong, our sources say there was no explosive fight or cheating… they simply grew apart over the years. In fact, we’re told Perry and Miro, known as Rusev in World Wrestling Entertainment, remain friends and still plan to work together in the future. Miro returned to Bulgaria shortly after the pair called it quits.”
A legendary WWE duo says goodbye
Both wrestlers have been among professional wrestling’s most iconic partners in recent years. Miroslav “Miro” Barnyashev, known as Rusev, is a Bulgarian wrestler who was renowned for his strength and aggression in the ring. Lana, played by Catherine Joy Perry, was his manager in WWE, and played a glamorous and haughty woman who often intervened in Rusev’s matches to help him win.
Lana and Miro married in 2016 after several years of dating and remained a happy couple in real life.
After leaving WWE, Miro wrestled in All Elite Wrestling and Lana had several projects outside the ring, including acting and creating online content. The two were reunited onscreen on AEW in recent months, but their storyline didn’t quite click on television.
