The NFL regular season is in full swing, but one of the more peculiar headlines in the offseason focused on Colin Kaepernick potentially returning to the league.
However, it wasn’t the usual story linking Kaepernick with a playing role. Instead, there were reports that new Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh had offered him a spot on his coaching staff.
During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, Kaepernick shed light on the matter.
Kaepernick pours cold water on story
While the story may have made headlines, Kaepernick stated that he received no offers from Harbaugh, or anyone else for that matter.
“It is not true,” Kaepernick said, according to Chantz Martin of Fox News.”I found out the same way everyone else did – on social media. I was like, ‘Oh, I got a coaching offer.’ No, no coaching offer.”
According to the Associated Press back in August, Harbaugh admitted he had reached out to Kaepernick about a job after the coach initially took over the Chargers back in January.
However, he later shot down the suggestion a few days later.
“I have thought that for a long time. Just the respect that I have for the football mind he has and the football man that he is,” Harbaugh said.
It looks as though talk of adding Kaepernick to the Chargers coaching staff may have just been due diligence, as Harbaugh hired the likes of NaVorro Bowman, Jonathan Goodwin and Will Tukuafu, who all played for him in San Francisco.
Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2017, and it looks as though we’ll have to wait some more to see whether he makes his return to the league.
