The Pennsylvania father who was tragically killed while protecting his family during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump had expressed his excitement for the rally in his final social media post. Corey Comperatore proudly announced his plans to attend Trump’s outdoor rally in Butler, as part of his weekend activities. His final post has been viewed over 3.3 million times as of Monday.
“Trump rally! Butler, PA,” Comperatore responded to a pro-Trump X account asking: “so what’s everyone getting into this weekend?”
Comperatore, a former Buffalo Township volunteer fire chief, was shot and killed by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks during the rally, which also left Trump and two others injured.
Protected his family
According to his sister, Dawn Comperatore Schafer, Corey’s final act was one of heroism, as he attempted to shield his daughter from the gunfire during Trump’s speech. His daughter, Allyson, shared that he quickly threw her and her mother to the ground to protect them.
“He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us,” she wrote on social media. “And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you.”
Helen, Comperatore‘s wife, described him as a “real-life superhero” who always put his family first.
The Governor of Pennsylvania recognized Comperatore as an “avid supporter” of former President Trump. Two other individuals wounded in the attack, David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, are currently in stable condition.
