Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is one of the best college footbal coaches currently and his achievements have earned him the respect and recognition from other coaches, players and event NFL teams that could be considering making him an offer to coach at the professional level.
Sanders has taken the Colorado Buffaloes football program to new heights and has helped put them on the national spotlight. Along the way, he was a big part of the success his superstar players had, such as the dual threat Travis Hunter, who played cornerback and wide receiver at supreme level, which earned him the Heisman Trophy.
“Prime Time” was also a big help to his son, superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who won the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation’s top quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement.
Deion Sanders has a heated argument with Shedeur
A video has resurfaced online where we see Deion Sanders, then head coach for Jackson State, getting into an argument with Shedeur after the young star mentioned the fact that he would like to get a tattoo. “Coach Prime” immediately checks him and asks the quarterback to drop the subject.

“How are you going to get mad if it’s not affecting you? Why is it bad for me” Shedeur asks his father. “Where does this come from? What is your dream? Keep on that.” Deion responds. The quarterback tries to put the blame on the person that’s recording the video and then tries to play it off.
“Don’t you have a dream of being great?” “Prime Time” continues. Shedeur responds by saying that he’s been having a dream of being the best quarterback and that’s the reason why he has put on physical work to have his body at its best capacity.
“Martin Luther King had a dream to change the world.” says the person recording the moment, trying to help Shedeur’s case. “He didn’t have a tattoo.” Deion Sanders quickly replies. “What I’m saying is: I’m just coming to you as a man, not as your son.” Shedeur stated.
“And I’m coming to you as a father, shave your armpit. I come to you as a father. No. It’s wisdom… Where you are planning on going, some things you can’t take with you.” Deion Sanders said to prove his point. Shedeur tried to push back by saying that he was planning on getting a tattoo on his thigh. “It starts off with a thigh, next thing you know it’s a shoulder, next thing you know it’s a calf, next thing you know it’s a harmstring, next thing you know, you’re Tyson!”.
Shedeur Sanders got a tattoo anyways
After Shedeur Sanders transfered to Colorado following his father who was named the head coach for the Buffaloes, he did get a tattoo against “Coach Prime’s” advice. A video of the awkward interaction between the quarterback and his father showed the uncomfortable moment.
“I’m looking at him before practice and I see him just glance at my tattoo before he’s gonna talk to the team, and the the light was hitting it, too. I was like ‘that’s crazy, man!'” Shedeur says with a nervous laugh.
Deion Sanders does not look happy at all and warns his son that there were going to be consequences for his acts.
Tattoo or not, Shedeur had one of the best college seasons for a quarterback. He was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press, first-team All-Transfer by On3 and The Athletic and All-Pac-12 honorable mention by the coaches and College Football Network.
He was also named second team on the All-NFF Colorado Chapter team and named CU’s newcomer of the year across all sports at the school’s CUSPY celebration.
