Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić has already reached out to his former teammates on the Dallas Mavericks.
Saturday night delivered events that shocked the sports world, as the Mavericks traded Dončić to the Lakers for a package featuring Anthony Davis.
Dončić, 25, is months removed from an MVP-level 2023-24 season that saw him lead Dallas to the NBA Finals alongside Kyrie Irving.
No one in their right mind would have ever assumed that the Mavericks were even considering the idea of trading Luka, but here we are.
On Sunday, Mavs beat writer Mike Curtis revealed the following information about Dončić after speaking with Mavs guard Naji Marshall.
“Naji Marshall just told me he hasn’t spoken directly to Luka Doncic yet, but he said the former Mavs superstar texted the team’s group chat & said: “Thanks for everything.”
“Marshall: “I was surprised like everyone else. Very good dude. Good teammate. I look forward to playing him again.”
Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has since addressed the media while sitting beside Dallas’ head coach Jason Kidd.
X users aplenty have speculated that Kidd looked distraught during the press conference, leading some to believe that Kidd is not happy with the trade. Harrison revealed during the presser that Kidd was not aware of the deal before it happened.
The Mavericks and Lakers are set to face off on February 25.
Dončić has been sidelined since December 25 with a strained calf, but he is expected to be back in February.
