A star of Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt, faces her first time on the red carpet in Los Angeles as a possible winner as best supporting actress at the Academy Awards. But, far from the glamour and spotlight, the way Blunt found out about the achievement was not exactly the most expected.
Blunt talked about what her nomination meant after months of various rumors before she learned of the honor, which she described as a magical moment.
However, the moment when she was notified that she would be one of the performers in the shortlist for the award was… compromising as she took her canine friend out for a walk throughout New York City.
“In my case I had a brief cry in the middle of Brooklyn, a brief cry right after picking up my dog’s poop,” Blunt revealed to 92NY with Josh Horowitz. “I picked up his poop and then found out I had been nominated, so it was perfect.
“My husband John Krasinski cried a lot too, after helping me with the poop. I think he went to throw it in the trash and then we both cried.”

It’s the first time that Blunt has been dominated for the award and her performance in Christopher Nolan’s latest hit was good, so it appears that she was somewhat hopeful of a call.
Nonetheless, she recalled the amount of dread she felt as she waited around to see if she will be paid tribute to by the Academy at the Oscars and now she has to continue waiting until the ceremony takes place.
“It’s quite scary, the anticipation,” Blunt said of being nominated. “And I think you just try to ignore the rumors, because sometimes rumors are built on sand.
“And when it happened, it happened in such a momentous way for all of us involved in the film and for everyone on the team, it was magical.”
She also added that she emphasises with Katherine Oppenheimer, married to the man who designed the atomic bomb, as she was a smart woman who was unable to get any footing in a man’s world.
It’s possibly something she even relates too as, despite her success throughout her acting career in projects such as The Devil Wears Prada, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, The Girl on the Train and A Quiet Place, she never got nominated to an Oscar until now.
“I empathized with her a lot,” Blunt added. “The idea of that extraordinary brain going to waste and decomposing on the ironing board and the latent anger and rage that would follow.
“She raged against the machine as best she could, but I don’t think she could do much else, and then she married this icon and clearly adored him, loved him, supported him, he was such a stabilizing force in her life and yet he was so unstable.”
