The Emmy-nominated Sydney Sweeney is best known for her role as Cassie Howard in HBO’s Euphoria, one of the network’s best-reviewed shows about the vicissitudes of growing up and how life is for some teenagers is more brutal than what you may believe.
During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney opened up about what it means to be a sex symbol and what her nude sex scenes are about.
She will continue doing nude scenes
She mentioned that she “won’t stop” performing nude scenes since “People forget that I’m playing a character,” Sweeney said “They think, ‘Oh, she gets naked onscreen, she’s a sex symbol.’ … I have no problems with those scenes, and I won’t stop doing them.”
While being interviewed Sweeney also mentioned that she wishes there was an easier way to have an open conversation about how to confront general opinions and assumptions about actors and actresses.
She is an Emmy Nominated actress
She has two Emmy nominations, one for “White Lotus” and the other for “Euphoria”, and she mentions that she takes her career very seriously to the point of not sleeping to leave her mark in Hollywood, she mentions that she still feels like an outsider.
“I had no idea getting into this industry how many people have connections. I started from ground zero, and I know how f***ing hard it is,” she commented.
I worked my F***ing ass off
“Now I see how someone can just walk in a door, and I’m like, ‘I worked my f***ing ass off for 10 years for this.'”
Sydney also told the news outlet that in order to keep up with Hollywood, she has to fend for herself since she does not have anyone supporting her
“If I wanted to take a six-month break, I don’t have the income to cover that…I don’t have someone supporting me, I don’t have anyone I can turn to pay my bills or call for help.”
She plays Cassie Howard
Her most recent role in Euphoria was a very sexual one as her character Cassie Howard was having an intimate relationship with her best friend’s ex-and then-boyfriend Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. During her portrayal of the high school student, they engage in a very destructive relationship that sheds light on the power roles of an “unconventional” relationship.
Sam Levinson created the characters
The show’s creator Sam Levinson has been great at making the artists understand the character’s motivations, context, and decisions in such a way that actors and actresses trust the development of each character, Sweeney points out that she gets very excited when Sam writes and that she is so focused on delivering that she forgets she is in the nude.
