On Tuesday morning, a worker raking a section of Miami-Dade beach came across a macabre find when he came across a human head that had been washed ashore. The incident caused alarm and an immediate police investigation began.
The incident occurred in the middle of Miami Beach and personnel from the Miami-Dade Police Department immediately arrived on the scene and confirmed that the head was human, although they had not been able to determine the sex or identity of the victim, according to Miami-Dade Police Detective Argemis Colome.
The police cordoned off the area in search of other evidence that could help provide more details about the case. In some aerial images, the local press was able to capture the place where the discovery shows that the head was covered with a blue tarpaulin and marked with traffic cones, while detectives continue with forensic investigations.
“It is too early to say whether the incident is related to any recent cases, including that of a teenager who went missing while swimming in the area on Saturday,” a police spokesman told the Miami Herald.
Upon hearing the news, the neighbors in the area were horrified.
“You see all kinds of things here, but nothing like this we saw this morning. A person’s head,” Bahman Amini told CBS News. “We’re afraid to go to the beach that we love”.
“This is my usual route. Our neighborhood is very safe,” another neighbor told local station WPLG. “We have our kids here; our kids play on these beaches and it’s just amazing.”
A third witness to the events, a woman who was walking in the area, explained that at that moment, a policeman quickly escorted her out of the area. “He signaled with his finger for me to turn around immediately and I understood immediately.”
However, he described the situation as a “rather worrying” event.

This discovery comes weeks after the body of a 31-year-old model was found floating near Key Biscayne in late September. Police identified her as Adriana Vieria, who presumably drowned off Miami Beach while at a yacht party and met up with her friends in the sea to swim around 8:30 p.m.
Her friends reported that they became worried after they shouted at her to return to the yacht because of the presence of jellyfish and she did not respond. Her body was found floating in the water minutes later and although she was rushed to hospital, she was pronounced dead an hour later.
