The Dallas Cowboys are facing an offseason of major decisions, looking to restructure their roster and finally break their long-standing Super Bowl drought. With several key free agents on the market and the team struggling to balance cap space and contract extensions, Cowboys executives Jerry and Stephen Jones are carefully crafting their approach.
As part of their free agency strategy, Dallas is intent on retaining several core contributors, including running back Rico Dowdle, defensive end Chauncey Golston, and cornerback Jourdan Lewis. However, one name has emerged as a top priority for the Cowboys, and surprisingly, it’s not Micah Parsons or Dak Prescott.
According to CEO and director of personnel Stephen Jones, defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa is at the top of Dallas’ retention list.
Since being drafted in the third round in 2021, Odighizuwa has steadily developed into one of the Cowboys‘ most reliable defensive linemen. His 2024 season numbers speak for themselves-25 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a forced fumble-making him a key component of both the run defense and pass rush.

Recognizing his importance in anchoring their defensive line, the Cowboys are working diligently to ensure he remains a part of their long-term plans.
Parsons’ future
The 2024 campaign was one to forget for Dallas. A 7-10 record kept them out of the playoffs, as injuries plagued the roster, leading to inconsistent performances on both sides of the ball.
Their home record at AT&T Stadium was especially disappointing (2-7), while they fared slightly better on the road (5-3). On offense, the Cowboys averaged 20.6 points per game (totaling 350 points over the season), but their defense was a major liability, allowing 468 points (27.5 points per game).
The Cowboys‘ injury struggles, defensive inconsistencies, and lack of cohesion all contributed to a season in which he wasn’t able to be as impactful as in previous years. Yet, Jones was quick to shut down any doubts about Parsons‘ value.
“I don’t think anyone’s ever underestimated Micah‘s value in terms of what he can bring. From the day he walked in the door, he’s been one of those [guys who] when he’s rolling, it’s a problem for the other guys and they got to find him,” he noted.
