It was an all-Aussie affair in the second round of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open as top seeds Storm Hunter and Matt Ebden were eliminated by Jaimee Fourlis and Andrew Harris.

A 6-4 7-6(6) victory saw Fourlis and Harris qualify for the quarter finals, where they went on to beat Laura Siegemund and Sander Gillé in straight sets, 7-5 7-5, to move into the semis.

Up next, they’ll face third seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zieliński, while in the other semi final, Australian pair Olivia Gadecki and Marc Polmans look to qualify through to the decider.

While many fans are familiar with the Australian players on tour, Fourlis and Harris have largely slipped under the radar of the casual tennis watcher.

The 2024 Australian Open is their first time teaming up but, given their success so far, it may not be the last.

Here’s a little bit more about the mixed doubles pair.

Jaimee Fourlis age, rank and career highlights

Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1999, Fourlis is currently 24 years old.

She made her professional debut in 2014 as a 14-year-old, featuring in an ITF Women’s Circuit event in Glen Iris.

Three years later she made her first grand slam singles tournament appearance, granted entry into the 2017 Australian Open after winning a wildcard playoff.

Fourlis won her opening game against Anna Tatishvili before losing in the second round – her best performance at the tournament to date.

She also made her only French Open appearance to date that same year, bowing out in the first round.

Her next major milestone came in 2018, achieving a ranking within the WTA’s top 200 in June.

Unfortunately, Fourlis’ progress plateaued over the following two years, failing to qualify for any grand slam tournaments before undergoing shoulder surgery in 2020.

She returned to grand slam action in 2022, appearing in the Wimbledon and US Open singles draw.

Notably, she also reached the final of the Australian Open mixed doubles event alongside Jason Kubler.

Fourlis is ranked as the world No. 214 in singles and No. 403 in doubles (as of January 15, 2024).

Andrew Harris age, rank and career highlights

Harris is also from Melbourne but, at 29, is five years older than his doubles partner.

Unlike Fourlis, Harris almost exclusively plays doubles these days.

Harris played his first professional match in 2011 before having success at the junior level a year later alongside Nick Kyrgios.

The pair qualified for the boys’ doubles finals at the 2012 French Open and Wimbledon, lifting the title at the All England Club.

Harris has qualified for the main singles draw of a Grand Slam on one occasion, going down to Matteo Berrettini in the first round of the 2020 Australian Open.

Alongside Dominik Koepfer, he made the final of the Los Cabos Open in Mexico, his only ATP Tour final to date.

He’s claimed two Futures Tour titles as a singles player, while in doubles he’s featured in seven title wins at Challenger level.

Jaimee Fourlis and Andrew Harris next match

After beating the German-Belgian combination Siegemund and Gillé, Fourlis and Harris have advanced to the semi finals where they will face an as yet undetermined pair.
