The speculation surrounding Deion Sanders‘ potential return to Florida State University (FSU) has been addressed by Colorado’s athletic director, Rick George. With Sanders’ past as a celebrated FSU athlete, fans and sports analysts alike have long wondered if he would be tempted to head back to his alma mater.
However, George recently voiced his confidence in Sanders‘ commitment to Colorado, stating that Coach Prime is enjoying his time in Boulder and appreciates the unique environment and support the city offers.
In his podcast appearance, George highlighted Sanders’ passion for Colorado, describing his strong connection to the community, the landscape and the team he’s building.
“If I’m Coach Prime, here’s what I would say: I can be the first Black head coach to win a National Championship at Colorado,” George said.
“We have the opportunity to win next year if not this year.”
Sanders has had a transformative impact on Colorado’s football program, drawing national attention, improving recruitment efforts, and reigniting fan enthusiasm.
The Buffs have seen packed stadiums and standout performances on the field, and George suggested that Sanders has even bigger ambitions-possibly taking Colorado to a national championship.
Still, the uncertainty remains, as two of Sanders’ top players, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is Deion’s son, and Travis Hunter, are expected to be NFL-bound in 2025.
Losing these star athletes could potentially impact Sanders’ plans, given his close bond with both players.

Meanwhile, Florida State’s current coach, Mike Norvell, has faced difficulties in restoring the team’s former glory, leading some FSU supporters to hope for Sanders’ return.
This isn’t the first time Sanders‘ name has come up in relation to FSU, as he was previously considered for the role in 2020. Though Sanders ultimately didn’t take the FSU position, he remains fond of his time there, once stating that his interview for the job was a success but leaving his fate in other hands.
