Reddit censors MrBeast’s post complaining about the government
The streamer uploaded a special video to his YouTube channel last week. In it, he gave prosthetics to 2,000 legless people in the United States, allowing them to walk again and improve their lives, in many cases also being able to return, for example, to live independently.
However, Jimmy did not like to see the situation of the disabled, who mostly made it clear to him that the US health system had not helped them at all. After experiencing this, he published a post complaining on X: “It’s embarrassing that in a country this rich, a YouTuber is your only way to get a prosthetic limb. We need to fix this.”
The United States’ fully privatized health care system means that getting those prosthetics is very expensive. This publication generated a debate, which began to escalate on Reddit, specifically on r/YouTube, the main page of the website where content creation is discussed.
However, this thread of comments, many against US rulers and health care, were soon deleted. It was going viral, and everything that was being posted was deleted by the page itself, which many criticized as censorship.
Reddit republishes the thread and apologises for the error
Hours after it was removed, r/YouTube moderators, following criticism of censorship, investigated the case. According to a community note on X, they indicated that the post was mistakenly removed by an automatic filter.
It seems that they did not see it before because they were out of work over the weekend, and that is why they have now republished it, also showing themselves “100% in agreement” with MrBeast’s words.
