It has been 27 years since *Titanic* premiered, one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history. The movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, continues to spark conversation, and now fans have made a video of an alternate ending go viral.
This ending was published on social media five years ago and has garnered over 300,000 views on YouTube. Is trending on X after a debate emerged over fans’ discontent with how it spoils such an iconic scene.
What Happens in This Alternate Ending?
It is said to be a deleted scene from the original film. In it, Rose, now an elderly woman, is on the edge of a boat. She holds the necklace that Jack gave her before he drowned in the ocean. Her granddaughter Lizzy, accompanied by three treasure hunters to whom Rose has told her story, arrives to see what is happening.
Fearing that the elderly woman might throw herself into the ocean, they are reassured when she says she intends to return the necklace to where it belongs. Brock Lovett asks Rose to reconsider her decision, to which the elderly woman responds that it is just an object and that what truly matters are the people we love. Lovett asks the lady to let him hold the necklace one last time, which she agrees to.
Rose then proceeds to take the necklace and throw it into the sea in a somewhat cynical and defiant manner. As Lizzy cries with emotion, the rest of the witnesses rush to the railing to watch as the jewel disappears among the waves.
The Titanic today
Since the discovery of its wreck location in 1985, over 30 expeditions have been recorded to see the Titanic.
In June 2023, a tragedy occurred when five passengers died during an expedition to view the wreckage of the Titanic. The submarine Titan suffered an implosion that caused instant death to those aboard. The crew was declared dead a few hours later when it was determined that the oxygen supply inside the vessel had expired.
Days later, debris from the Titan were found, but it failed to locate the legendary ship that sank in 1912.
This submarine was owned by OceanGate Expeditions, which charged $250,000 per person for each expedition. The company’s CEO, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, was one of the passengers who were part of the tragic expedition.
