The 2024 NFL season kicks off on Thursday, September 5 with the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Kansas City Chiefs and hand in hand, football fans can begin their adventures in Fantasy Football, where they can become owners, general managers and coaches all rolled into one,
Many have already made their picks, but for those who haven’t, there is still time to draft the players who will be on your team for the season and make a decision each week as to who will be the starters.
To play you have to organize or receive an invitation from a league. If you are past that stage, the next step is to take on the role as if you were actually in a decision-making position in an NFL front office and each week choose your quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, a tight end, a kicker (K), a defensive player and a flex player, which can be another running back or receiver.
The goal is to add up the statistics of your players to score the most points and beat the opponents with whom you share a league, counting weekly wins and the cumulative at the end of the season.
But you may not always have the time or you may not like a league you signed up for, so here are the options you have to opt out.
How do I opt out of a Fantasy NFL league?
On the NFL.com website, they have resolved the doubt in an article in which they clarify that it is possible to delete or leave a league only before the Draft, but not after, because it would affect other users.
“Users can delete or drop custom leagues once they have been reactivated. NFL-managed leagues do not carry over from year to year,” reads the NFL’s support guide.
To begin the process of leaving the league prior to the draft, click on the League icon at the bottom of the screen, then select “Members” and next to the username click on the red “X”, which will display a screen asking for confirmation to leave the league. This can only be done from the website and not in the app.
The process to remove the entire league is similar, but the commissioner must go to the “Manage” tab, click on league, then click on the three lines at the top left and then on “full site” at the bottom right.
“Users cannot drop out after the draft (even those who did live drafts by accident) as doing so would negatively and unfairly affect the other participants in the league. Users can turn off alerts, join other leagues, manage their team’s viewing order or, in custom leagues, request the commissioner to replace them with another coach,” the NFL warns about Fantasy rules.
