Bill Gates revealed how he was left impressed by Donald Trump‘s opinions on key global topics such as war and disease as the Microsoft billionaire met the Republican President-Elect for private dinner.
The 69-year-old software genius, who is known for his philanthropy, and a close confidant held an audience with Trump and the next White House Chief of Staff as Gates sought to push his agenda on global health.
He particularly focused on combatting HIV and AIDs, with Gates looking to see if a development of the cure can be accelerated through Trump‘s presidential powers like with the Covid-19 vaccine.
“We’re still at an early stage,” Gates wrote in The Wall Street Journal of a prospective cure. “I was asking him if maybe the same kind of thing could be done here.
“And we both got, I think, pretty excited about that. We talked about polio, where we’re very close to getting that done. If you stop, it’ll spread back.”
The man form Seattle also described how he felt the dinner was “intriguing”, as he also turned his attention to alleviating humanitarian crises in places such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Gaza and parts of Africa.
And it seemed to strike a cord with the 78-year-old politician who he described as eager to support efforts once he heard it could be a historic achievement in the history of the United States.
“It felt like [Trump] was energized and looking forward to helping to drive innovation,” Gates later added.
When is the inauguration?
After winning the 2024 United States Presidential Election by dominating the swing states, it was declared Trump and the Republicans will be returning to the Oval Office from 2025 until the start of 2029.
Preparations are now underway for the transition of power and inauguration of the next president and vice-president, which will take place on Monday, January 20 besides the Capitol Building.
