Former Middleweight champion Jermall Charlo has been gong through a long hiatus with several mental health issues that haven’t allowed him to return to the sport. The latest problem he had was an arrest in the town of Pearland, Texas. Charlo was driving his Lamborghini Urus at 6:41 p.m. and was involved in a collision. Cops who arrived at the scene claim Charlo was intoxicated and got into a verbal argument with the other driver. When the police arrived at the scene, Charlo fled the scene but was subsequently arrested. Any cop will tell you that attempting to escape a potential crime scene is a major cause for automatic arrest, it is not permitted by law.
Charlo gets into police pursuit with local police
although this wasn’t like the legendary O.J. Simpson white Bronco persuit, authorities confirmed that they tried to pull Charlo over after escaping the scene in his crashed luxury vehicle. But the boxer completely ignored the sirens and was actually boxed by cops at a red light moments after he ignored the police. When the police arirved near his car, they realized he showed signs of intoxication. Jermall was arrested at the scene and booked on three misdemeanor charges. When the alcohol test was conducted on Charlo, he was declared aDWI with a BAC greater than .15. He was also charged with fleeing a police officer and leaving the scene of a crash that involves $200 of damage or more.
Despite the signs of potential substance abuse, Charlo’s attorney Kent Schaffer denied he is currently consuming any other type of substance. In the end, Jermall was released on surety bonds that total $9,500. Both Charlo and the other driver are reported unharmed after the incident. Contrary to other states, Texas is harsh with transgressors of these kinds of misdemeanors. Gien that Charlo has a celebrity status and wealth, it is highly unlikely he will go to jail for what he did or anything else beyond a slap on the wrist.
