John Cena is one of the most beloved wrestlers in the WWE universe and, at 47 years of age, he announced that next year he will make his farewell tour. This announcement was made in July 2024 during a surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank event.
For some years now, John Cena has only made sporadic appearances in WWE, as he has decided to focus much of his career on acting, appearing in films such as The Marine, F9: The Fast Saga and The Suicide Squad.
When is John Cena returning to WWE?
Wrestling journalist Bill Apter commented that there is a possibility that John Cena will make an appearance at the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event. The event is scheduled to take place on December 14 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
“I think he’s going to make an appearance or he’s going to wrestle in a match, but he’ll probably just make an appearance at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He might; he’s starting his tour in January. So this could be a preview of who he’s going to face starting in January,” Apter said of Cena’s return.
The last time John Cena wrestled
The last time John Cena wrestled was on April 8 at RAW’s The Judgment Day event, when he teamed with R-Truth and The Miz to face JD McDonagh, Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor. Cena came to the rescue of his teammates, who had been attacked by the villainous trio and could not continue because they had one less wrestler.
Since John Cena handed over, he prepared JD McDonagh to perform his iconic Five Knuckle Shuffle. Rey Mysterio’s son and Finn tried to avoid it by interfering, causing R-Truth and The Miz to enter the ring.
With six wrestlers inside the ring, the balance tipped in favor of Cena’s team, who, along with The Awesome Truth, applied a triple Attitude Adjustment, the signature of the more than 15-time WWE champion. This moment was enough to give the victory to John Cena and his colleagues.
