Floyd Mayweather Jr. is considered one of the best boxers in history thanks to his unique talent in the ring, especially with a defensive technique he developed in just over 20 years of professional career, in which he achieved a 50-0 record with 27 knockouts.
Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. was born in Grand Rapids (Michigan) 47 years ago. He is possibly the smartest boxer in history for the way he managed his professional career, in which he defeated the best of his time: Shane Mosley, Oscar De la Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Márquez and Diego Corrales.
Known as ‘Money’ Mayweather, his professional nickname not only refers to his talent with the gloves, like that of Muhammad Ali – “The Greatest” – but to another equally special one: his ability to generate money, even in retirement, by boasting a good sense when it comes to the business side of things.
Mayweather earned the nickname ‘Money’ because he gave many of his opponents their biggest paydays and participated in the four most popular PPV fights in history. The one that generated the most earnings was against Manny Pacquaio was the one that gave him the most with a total of $250 million.
After winning all the belts he fought for throughout his career, in 2022 the former boxer made it to the Hall of Fame along with legends Wladimir Klitschko and Andre Ward.
Since his retirement, Mayweather has agreed to more exhibition fights to continue generating money and honor his nickname, such as the one he will take part in on Saturday, August 24 at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico.
