Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner was taken to a hospital after leaving Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers when he was hit in the face by a pitch.
The 38-year-old fell to the ground after being hit by right-hander Matt Manning.
Medical personnel rushed to the plate and Turner was bleeding and had a towel over his face as he walked off the field.

“He is being treated for soft tissue injuries and is being monitored for a concussion,” the Red Sox said in a statement.
“He will undergo further testing and we will update as we have more information.
“Justin is stable, alert and in good spirits given the circumstances.”
The two-time All-Star signed a $15 million, one-year contract with the Red Sox during the offseason after spending the past nine years with the Dodgers.
He hit .278 with 13 home runs and 81 RBIs in 128 games last season.

The Oakland Athletics are still looking for a new home and Southern Nevada appears to be the best option, and while that’s happening, some baseball officials in Las Vegas say the gambling capital is ready to welcome a Major League Baseball team.
Las Vegas is a branch of the Athletics, and was the site of a preseason series between the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland this weekend.
“Las Vegas has always been a unique sports market, a really good sports market,” Don Logan, Triple-A Aviators president and COO, told ESPN.
“It makes sense. My perspective, make the best deal you can in Vegas and start firing up this community. And every other baseball fan.”
