The Kennedy family is at war again, this time over the release of classified federal files on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
JFK’s grandson Jack Schlossberg accused President Donald Trump of using his grandfather as a “political prop” in an X post made just after the US commander-in-chief announced Thursday that he would release the classified documents, The Post reported.
“JFK conspiracy theories. The truth is much sadder than the myth (sic), a tragedy that didn’t have to happen,” wrote Schlossberg, 32, who is known for his strange tweets in the past.
“It’s not part of some great inevitable plan. Declassification is using JFK as a political prop when he’s not here to fight back. There’s nothing heroic about it,” Schlossberg added.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. supports Trump’s executive order
But Schlossberg’s cousin and JFK’s nephew, Trump’s ally Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., opposed the claim and praised the president’s move.
“I am very grateful to President Trump,” RFK Jr. told reporters, referring to the upcoming release of the files, as he stood on Capitol Hill on Thursday preparing for his confirmation hearings as Trump’s controversial nominee for secretary of health and human services.
“I think it’s a great measure because we need to have more transparency in our government, and he’s (Trump) fulfilling his promise that the government will tell the American people the truth about everything,” said Kennedy, whose father, JFK’s brother Robert, was also assassinated and is the subject of files to be released soon.
RFK Jr. has previously clashed with Schlossberg and other members of the Kennedy dynasty, including over his anti-vaccine stance.
Schlossberg’s mother, Caroline Kennedy, JFK’s daughter and RFK Jr.’s cousin, has called the skepticism about the candidate’s vaccines “dangerous.”
Schlossberg has also previously criticized his cousin on social media, in outlandish posts that include him tearing his shirt, singing and adopting accents ranging from cockney British to that of a New York Jew.
Former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy, whose father was Ted Kennedy, brother of John and Robert, joined his nephew Robert several years ago in pushing for the FBI files on his uncles to be made public.
“I think for the good of the country, everything has to come out so that there is a greater understanding of our history,” Patrick Kennedy told Politico in 2021.
