The LSU women’s basketball program have moved on from Angel Reese by claiming three transfers during the NCAA Transfer Portal window after a week working behind the scenes.
LSU coach Kim Mulkey and Co. have signed a trio of proven players after announcing the moves on Wednesday evening, weeks after losing Angel Reese to the WNBA Draft and Van Lith to the Transfer Portal.
But it seems Mulkey has already put it behind her, securing Arizona’s Kailyn Gilbert, Miami’s Shayeann Day-Wilson and Mississippi State’s Mjracle Shepphard in a triple deal.
They will join transfer forward Jersey Wolfenbarger and Jada Richard, Louisiana’s high school player of the year, as LSU confirmed their five new players to add to their roster for the 2024-25.
In a post on X.com, the Louisiana team showed off their signings with an array of custom images of the likes of Gilbert and Day-Wilson in the Tigers’ purple uniform, with Mulkey declaring her delight at securing their signatures.
“We could not be more excited to add Shayeann, Kailyn and Mjracle to the LSU family,” the coach said.
“The three of them will add a combination of experience and depth on the perimeter for us and will bolster our roster to continue to compete at an elite level.”
Hailey van Lith left in limbo?
In a new twist, Van Lith announced on Wednesday she had not signed with TCU despite reports claiming she had agreed to join the program, clarifying she had only visited the complex in Texas.
The 22-year-old revealed she is yet to finalize her next move, although she did concede that she is ‘very close’ to committing to her next school.
“I did take a visit to TCU and am very interested in them, but I took visits to other schools and was very interested in them, too,” Van Lith told the Associated Press.
“I haven’t made an official commitment, but I’m very close. The ink has not touched the paper for any school.”
