Donald Trump now returns to the White House as the 47th President of the United States with the blessing of one of the nation’s oldest allies, as King Charles III congratulates him on his inauguration.
The 78-year-old was sworn in until 2029 on Monday, January 20 and received congratulations from some of the world’s richest and most affluent faces, such as Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
And special acknowledgement came from Britain in the form of Charles III, who sent a handwritten letter to the Republican leader praising the special relationship between the two western allies.
Could Trump be snubbed by Britain?
However, it’s unclear when the pair will meet as there is no state visit planned for Trump as of yet. The last time he visited as a president he met Queen Elizabeth II, who later died in September 2022.
It’s common for foreign leaders and fellow monarchs to visit Britain on the recommendation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, although the final decision remains with Kier Starmer‘s Labour-led government.
This could be a sticking point, after Elon Musk notoriously attacked Starmer‘s history as a lawyer via social media; as well as attacking a Member of Parliament, who is in the Prime Minister’s cabinet.
Trump previously described Charles as a “really wonderful guy”, although the monarch may hesitate to return the sentiment after the billionaire announced he withdrawing the USA from the Paris climate agreement.
The agreement aims to stop global temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius, which it officially breached in 2024 just months before several wildfires ravaged Los Angeles and California.
It has been a long-standing policy from the two-time president to quit the agreement and his most recent vow came on January 21 as he committed the USA to increasing its production of fossil fuels.
