In his second round match at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Kyrgios managed to get under the skin of the usually unflappable Stan Wawrinka.
At one point, Wawrinka yelled at Kyrgios, then hit a ball straight at the Aussie’s head.
The low point though, came when Kyrgios – who was playing his usual exciting brand of tennis – shouted across the court: “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that.”
Kyrgios lost the first set 7-6 but battled back to win the second set 6-3.
Wawrinka was down 4-0 in the third set when he retired citing a back injury, leaving Kyrgios with a third round match with John Isner.
When asked about the incident afterwards, Kyrgios said: “he was getting a bit lippy with me.
“Kind of in the heat of the moment, I don’t know. I just said it.”
