The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a dream offseason. They’ve managed to sign players such as Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Teoscar Hernandez and Tanner Scott.
However, there are still many things the Dodgers can do to get creative with all the talent they have. They could potentially look to find new homes for players without clear fits on the roster anymore.
Utility man Chris Taylor is somebody who doesn’t have a clear path to playing time due to struggles in recent years. Valentina Martinez of Sports Illustrated listed him as somebody the Dodgers could potentially look to trade.
“Taylor has a .200 batting average over the last two seasons and a concerningly high strikeout rate. He’s far from the player he was when he made the All-Star team in 2021,” Martinez wrote.
“Though Taylor has been with the Dodgers since 2016, it may be time to part ways as the team prepares to welcome its newcomers. Taylor is also more likely to be traded if the Dodgers plan on re-signing free agent Kiké Hernández.”
Taylor was signed to a four-year, $60 million deal to remain in Los Angeles prior to the 2022 season. He is in the final year of his contract.
His best season with the Dodgers came in 2017 when he hit .288 with 21 home runs, 72 RBI and an .850 OPS. He was an All-Star four years later.
Taylor also has an NLCS MVP award and two World Series rings to his name. But there just isn’t a fit for him in Los Angeles anymore. He provides some value in that he can play multiple positions, but the 34-year-old has significantly struggled at the plate over the past several years.
It will be interesting to see if Los Angeles can find any takers for him.
