League of Legends is currently at the best time of the year in every sense, absolutely in every way. In terms of the game itself, we are now at the start of a new season, and players are looking to climb their ELO to the max. Additionally, outside the game, Riot Games is gearing up for the second season of its animated series on Netflix, Arcane, which was a massive global success in its first installment in 2021, appealing to both League of Legends fans and those who have never played the game.
But beyond all this, which is already significant, the biggest event of the year for both Riot Games and esports in general is now taking place: the League of Legends World Championship. The Worlds are returning once again to Europe, specifically to Berlin, Paris, and London, where the grand final will be held between the two best LOL teams in the world, likely from Asia. But there’s still a long way to go, as the Worlds are still 2 rounds away from ending.
What is the prize pool for League of Legends worlds?
During the first part of the Worlds, the Play-In, concluded, where the last four teams qualified for the final phase of the Championship. Among them are the Spanish team MAD Lions KOI, which managed to reach the stage where the best teams in the world compete, alongside GAM Esports, PSG Talon, and paiN Gaming, the other “survivors” from the Play-In. But now the exciting part begins, as this Friday will see the semifinals round of the Swiss format.
The tournament started with a total of 16 teams from all over the world: four from South Korea, four from China, two from North America, one from Taiwan, one from Vietnam, one from Brazil, and finally our three European teams: MAD Lions KOI, Fnatic, and G2 Esports. However, among all these teams only four remain and only one will emerge as the future winner of the Worlds 2024, claiming the “big prize” in both honor and cash. So, let’s take a moment to outline the prize distribution for each team at the League of Legends World Championship.
First, regarding the prize pool, a total of $2,225,000 will be distributed among all teams, including those from the Play-In, with higher placements receiving a larger percentage of this total budget. The distribution is as follows:
- 1st place – $450,000 – 20%
- 2nd place – $360,000 – 16%
- 3rd-4th place – $180,000 – 8%
- 5th-8th place – $101,250 – 4.5%
- 9th-11th place – $78,750 – 3.5%
- 12th-14th place – $67,500 – 3%
- 15th-16th place – $56,250 – 2.5%
- 17th-18th place – $39,375 – 1.75% – Movistar R7 and 100 Thieves
- 19th-20th place – $22,500 – 1% – Vikings Esports and SHG
