Dwyane Wade and LeBron James won two NBA championships together when they became teammates at the Miami Heat. During that era, James was obsessed with winning a ring and they got dangerously close during LeBron’s first year in the team. He got to play four consecutive finals but that first lossgot him in a weird mental space. They lost against Dirk Nowiztki’s Dallas Mavericks and Dwyane Wade planned a vacation with him and their wives. In a recent interview with journalist Rachel Nichols, Wade revealed something that nobody ever heard about before. LeBron risked his entire career by doing something rash and stupid.
LeBron James could’ve sustained a serious injury
Maybe LeBron James will talk about this with Wade in the future, that could be something he didn’t want people to know. But Wade still made this startling revelation that none of his sponsors will like: “We already had this vacation planned… My wife and I got there first, Bron and Savannah came after. It was a shared balcony; we out there just looking at the pool. LeBron came in, looked down, and there’s a pool. He said ‘ How deep you think that is?’ 8-9 feet? ‘Let me see.’ Took his stuff off and jumped in the pool from the balcony. That’s how crazy the time was; that’s where your mind was.”
We need to understand the situation LeBron James was going through at the time, he was already the most hyped newcomer since probably Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan and he still hadn’t won a single championship with 8 years into his career. By the time he decided to move to Miami, James was already quite desperate to make things happen as soon as possible. Losing that first shot at the ring was probably cathartic for him and Dwyane Wade was got tangled up in the middle of it. Fortunately, that Miami Heat side played three more finals and won two of them. James got his two rings but imagine how life would’ve been if he had suffered a serious injury.
