Leicester City produced one of the biggest miracles in the history of football when they won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season.
It happened just one year after avoiding relegation to the Championship, as Claudio Ranieri put together a group of players such as Jaime Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel and N’Golo Kante who led the team to glory.
Only two survivors from the title-winning Leicester team
Following the departures of Schmeichel and Marc Albrighton, nowadays Vardy and Daniel Amartey are the only two players from the title-winning team to remain in the squad.
The two teams are quite different, with the current side one step away from relegation to the Championship, as they are second-bottom, two points from safety with three games to go.
“I’m very, very, very hopeful, but it’s obviously very nerve-wracking,” Gary Lineker told talkSPORT earlier this month.
“I think it’s 50-50 for Leicester really. I think they’re going to need at least four points, but whether they’ll get that, I don’t know.
“They’ve only won one game since the World Cup and that’s a worry. I’ve been in Leicester today and it’s a nervous town.”
The situation has worsened since then, as Fulham thrashed Leicester 5-3 on Monday.
“Good heavens! Leicester are going down,” Lineker wrote on Twitter.
The Foxes recently sacked Brendan Rodgers, under whom Leicester won the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021, and replaced him with Dean Smith.
They now have a nervous few weeks as they aim to avoid dropping back to the second tier.
