This Tuesday, Marvel Studios released the first trailer for the new version of its iconic superheroes, The Fantastic Four, in this new installment dubbed ‘First Steps’, which will star Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm) and Eban Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm).
In the teaser, which is about a minute and a half long, the four characters appear, with a touch to the design they had in their appearance in the 60s, as well as a first look at the great villain, the terrible Galactus, who makes his debut in the film saga
The film, which makes its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is directed by Matt Shakman (Wandavision) and features a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer
Before this film, the MCU only had a brief reference to the Fantastic Four with the appearance of a variant of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, played by John Krasinski
The story of the astronauts who become superheroes
This story, one of the first created by Stan Lee in the 1960s for Marvel, tells the story of a group of astronauts who suffer an accident in space and are bombarded by a strange cosmic radiation that gives them a series of different powers.
In this context, the story is set, precisely in the 1960s, but with important technological advances.
About the design of the story, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, explained during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 that the film would seek to present the story in a different way, compared to the two sagas previously released outside the MCU:
“Many people know this origin story. Many people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something they’ve never seen before? We’ve set ourselves a very high bar in bringing that to the screen,” he said
Although at the moment it is not known what these new features are that the new story promises
The film also stars Julia Garner, who will play Shalla-Bal, the version of Silver Surfer. In addition, Ralph Ineson will play the villain Galactus and will feature the first actor, John Malkovich, as well as Paul Walter Hauser
Marvel Studios has scheduled the release for July 24, 2025, as part of the MCU’s Phase 6, pushing back its original release, which was scheduled for May 2025.
