The Philadelphia Eagles are back to play in Super Bowl LIX, and they will have a rematch that came sooner than expected against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the 2023 edition of the NFL championship game, the Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 in the final seconds with a field goal by Harrison Butker, leaving Philadelphia with yet another loss in the title game.

The Eagles were born in the distant 1933, winning three NFL titles in the pre-Super Bowl era in the 1948, 1949 and 1960 seasons, and it took almost 60 years to win another title after several attempts that ended in defeat.
How many times have the Philadelphia Eagles played in the Super Bowl?
The franchise’s first appearance in a title game came in the 1980 season, when under coach Dick Vermeil, they reached Super Bowl XV to face the Oakland Raiders.
Despite coming in as the heavy favorites, Oakland completely dominated the Eagles to defeat them 27-10, at the same venue as the next Super Bowl, at the Superdome in New Orleans.
It took 24 years for the Eagles to return to a Super Sunday, when in Super Bowl XXXIX they faced the New England Patriots, and the Eagles once again lost the game by falling 24-21.
In that game, the Eagles’ coach was Andy Reid, who is now the Chiefs’ coach.
Philadelphia returned to another Super Bowl in LII, which was played in freezing conditions in Minnesota, to face the Patriots and Tom Brady once again.
Unlike what happened in their last appearance, the Eagles finally won their first Super Bowl championship ring, defeating the Patriots 41-33 in an exciting game.
Quarterback Nick Foles was named MVP of the game after completing 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards, plus three touchdown passes and a touchdown reception in one of the most memorable plays in NFL history with the “Philly Special”.
The Eagles returned once again two seasons ago for the aforementioned Super Bowl LVII against the Chiefs and Andy Reid.
Now, head coach Nick Sirianni has the Eagles back in the Super Bowl for the fifth time, and with a 1-3 record, Philadelphia will be looking to win its second title in the new era of the NFL, and the fifth in its history.
