Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph left the Steel City during the 2024 offseason in order to serve as the backup for the Tennessee Titans, and he has gotten some action in his first season in Nashville.
But he’s about to get a lot more work over the last three weeks. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Titans are making a switch at quarterback thanks to the slew of struggles Will Levis has had in his second season.
The expectation is that Mason Rudolph will take the reins from here. After all, the Titans don’t have another quarterback on their roster.
“The Tennessee Titans are planning to make a switch at quarterback this week, source told ESPN,” Fowler wrote. “Mason Rudolph is the logical candidate to step in for starter Will Levis, who likely heads to the bench barring surprise.”
Levis has been an unmitigated disaster for the Titans this season. After showing some flashes as a rookie, the Kentucky product has regressed badly and has been a turnover machine.
Up until the Week 15 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Brian Callahan had never wavered from Levis remaining as the starter, but he had a much different tone on Sunday that showed he might be ready to move on, which clearly he was.
Rudolph, who is on a one-year, $2.8 million deal, has appeared in five games this season, starting in three. He’s completed 63% of his passes for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns to three interceptions. Tennessee is 1-2 in Rudolph’s starts.
Rudolph hasn’t been great by any stretch, but he has done a better job of taking care of the football, something that could’ve led to a few more wins for Tennessee. Now, he’ll get a three-game audition for his next contract.
