On May 26 ‘The Little Mermaid’, the first live-action Disney character will hit theaters and has been surrounded by intense controversy. The film has received all kinds of comments and the last of them has been launched by Mena Massoud, who starred in ‘Aladdin’ and has now closed his Twitter account for his message about the film.
Massoud‘s film, in which he coincided with Will Smith, saw the light of day in 2019 and surpassed 1 billion dollars in box office worldwide. Its success was undeniable and, therefore, it was expected that there would be a sequel that Disney never announced. A fact that has provoked numerous criticisms from the 31-year-old Egyptian actor.
The star of ‘Aladdin’, however, does not believe that all films can repeat the feat and, instead, believes that ‘The Little Mermaid’ will not be looked at with the same yardstick. This is what he said in a tweet that he has already deleted, as well as his account, due to the responses received.

“Our movie was unique in the sense that audiences went to see it multiple times. That’s the only way to reach the one billion dollar mark with our release. My bet is that The Little Mermaid won’t cross the billion mark, but it will definitely have a sequel,” Massoud wrote on social media.
The comment generated an uproar and the actor was accused of implying that the film will have a sequel only because it stars a black woman, unlike ‘Aladdin’, which starred a Middle Eastern man.
The truth is that, contrary to what Massoud said, the movie ‘The Little Mermaid’ has been strongly criticized only because of the skin color of Halle Bailey. In fact, there have been comments on social networks claiming that they will boycott the film because of it.
