Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. recently opened up about his time at Paris Saint-Germain, shedding light on his relationship with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
Speaking on Romário’s podcast, Neymar revealed that Mbappe, now at Real Madrid, felt “a little jealous” when Messi joined PSG in 2021.
The arrival of the Argentine legend in Paris was a landmark moment, but Neymar hinted that it caused friction within the team.
He explained how Mbappe, once his “golden boy,” initially shared a strong bond with him. “We had a little fight, but he was fundamental for us when he arrived,” Neymar said.
“I always helped him, we had dinner together, and I always said he was going to be one of the best.”
However, Neymar shared that Messi’s arrival seemed to shift the dynamic. “After Messi came, he [Mbappe] was a little jealous,” Neymar joked.
While their on-field partnership was promising, the Brazilian admitted that “big egos” often got in the way of success.

Neymar didn’t hold back on describing how individual ambitions affected the team. “It’s good to have egos, but you have to know you don’t play alone,” he remarked. “If nobody runs and nobody helps, it’s impossible to win anything.”
Despite their star power, PSG struggled to achieve their ultimate goal: winning the Champions League. Early exits and domestic disappointments, including losing the league title to Lille, frustrated fans and the club’s management.
Neymar, Messi, and Mbappe all left PSG by 2024, heading to Al-Hilal, Inter Miami, and Real Madrid, respectively. Neymar’s revelations paint a picture of a team filled with talent but weighed down by internal challenges.
