The contract extension negotiations between the Argentinean star and the prestigious French club fell through, and both parties announced the end of their professional relationship on Saturday.
Just as all the children were about to leave the field to make way for the start of the match, Messi‘s sons bid him farewell, but Thiago, captured on camera, waited until the last moment to say to his father “Good luck”.
Inter Miami’s formal offer to Messi
Messi may have had a clearer idea about his next team after receiving a formal offer from MLS side Inter Miami.
As reported by MARCA, the offer would include a contract of at least three seasons, in exchange for a significant sum, although it falls short of the 400 million dollars per year offered by Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
Nevertheless, Messi would become the highest-paid player in MLS, which allows each team to have three franchise players earning an annual salary exceeding 1m dollars.
This was the second formal offer for Messi, alongside the one from Al Hilal, while Barcelona have also presented a proposal.
Although the Barcelona board will need to meet certain financial demands in order to afford Messi, they do have the advantage of having an emotional connection with the player.
