The underwhelming performance from Tyson quickly fueled speculation that the fight was staged. However, former heavyweight champion Shane Cameron has stepped in to address these claims, offering a more balanced perspective.
“I don’t think this fight was rigged,” Cameron said after reviewing one of the viral clips accusing Tyson of throwing the fight. He criticized the way such videos manipulate footage to create misleading narratives. “The thing with all these videos, they are making it slo-mo and it looks like it’s rigged. And I don’t think it’s rigged man.”
Cameron pointed out that Tyson’s performance could be attributed to the natural effects of aging rather than any deliberate attempt to lose. He explained that Tyson’s slower movement and missed punches were a result of facing a younger opponent with quicker reflexes. “When Mike’s coming forward, he’s not coming forward as fast as what he used to do,” Cameron noted. He added that Jake Paul’s youth and agility allowed him to evade Tyson’s punches effectively. “[Paul] doesn’t have to have too much skill in terms of how he’s going to get over, but he just [has to] have good footwork to get away. And that’s what he has done.”

Tyson’s performance against Paul raised eyebrows
Despite Cameron’s effort to clear the air, not everyone is convinced. Former NFL pro bowler Adam Jones has also weighed in on the controversy, claiming the fight was “rigged.” Speaking to Mirror US, Jones alleged that Tyson appeared to hold back during the first round.
“Mike hit him with a couple and it looked like he told him to slow down,” Jones claimed. He also questioned Paul’s unusually cautious approach, saying, “Paul knocked everybody else out. He wasn’t as aggressive though with Mike. He looked a little timid to me.”
The debate continues as fans and experts remain divided over whether the fight was staged or simply a reflection of Tyson’s age and Paul’s strategy.
