The year 2024 could go down as the year Jake Paul put himself on the map. The former YouTube star put on his gloves and won two high-profile fights last year, defeating bare-knuckle challenger Mike Perry in July before defeating Mike Tyson in front of 70,000 people at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The wins made Paul fabulously wealthy; for the Tyson bout alone, the 28-year-old pocketed a cool $40 million, enhancing his personal brand in the process.
But the Tyson-Paul bout has been dogged by rumors that it was “fixed“, rigged to boost Paul’s celebrity while offering Tyson a way back into the sport — not to mention his own $20 million payday. Jake Paul and his brother Logan have announced an event on streaming giant Max this March, but the lack of clarity over what that will entail — and Jake’s own comments — have his fans fearing the worst.
Paul: I want to retire after demonstrating my gull potential
In a new interview, Jake Paul has lifted the lid on recent criticism amidst the revelation that he will “fight” Logan in two months’ time. The brothers’ “event” on Max has been revealed as a sort of “reality series” that could offer a glimpse into Jake’s mindset in the weeks and months since the Tyson bout.
“I don’t think it’ll be after winning a world title. I’m going to try and figure out how to fight in the 2028 Olympics and win gold and then I think I’ll retire,” Paul told the “Ring Champs” podcast.
Fortunately for fans of the Paul brothers, Jake is intent on showing his “best version” by becoming an Olympic-quality combatant. At the very least, the “Problem Child” has once again displayed his flair and knack for starting a conversation — and keeping the Paul name in the headlines.
“People haven’t seen the best version of me in the ring or what I’m capable of…I think I’ve not shown that, and this next year is going to be a great way to do that,” Jake told “Ring Champs”.
