As one of the oldest and quickest circuits on the 2023 Formula 1 calendar, Monza is often referred to as ‘The Temple of Speed’.

It is situated in close proximity to the city of Monza, north of Milan in Italy, and, with the exception of the year 1980, the circuit has been a consistent host of races since 1949, a noteworthy accomplishment.

Known as the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Italian, the track was inaugurated for public use more than a century ago, on September 3, 1922.

All there is to know about the Italian Grand Prix circuit

The Monza racing circuit spans a length of 5.793 kilometers and its surface is covered with asphalt.

It encompasses a total of 11 turns, among which are some iconic ones, such as Ascari and Parabolica, the latter of which has been renamed as Alboreto.

The track boasts a rapid and flowing design, affording drivers the opportunity to push their boundaries and attain maximum speeds.

The Italian Grand Prix circuit enables drivers to reach staggering speeds of up to 370 km/h, a feat exclusive to this track.

These demanding conditions necessitate a setup with low downforce, something which Red Bull have been good at all season.

Another remarkable aspect of this circuit is that a staggering 76 percent of a lap at Monza is completed with the accelerator fully engaged, featuring the longest flat-out section spanning 1,520 meters.

It’s easy to see, therefore, how the nickname of ‘The Temple of Speed’ came about.

Monza is a special track for Ferrari

Moreover, the Italian Grand Prix circuit holds special significance for the Tifosi, the fervent fanbase of Ferrari.

With Monza serving as the venue for the Italian Grand Prix, the Tifosi gain the privilege of witnessing Ferrari‘s home race, an occasion they hold in high esteem.
