The New York City Marathon will have a full capacity of 50,000 runners this year, after the race was canceled in 2020 and limited last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Thursday, New York Road officially announced the event for Nov. 6.
After the 2019 New York City Marathon set a world record with 53,627 finishers, the 2020 race was canceled that June as the city grappled with a public health crisis created by COVID-19.

Runners who finish their 15th New York City Marathon were eligible for guaranteed entry in future years. The application period was open from January 30, 2022, through February 13, 2022.
Is there a time limit for the 2022 NYC Marathon?
To allow streets and park drives to reopen as scheduled, the race course will remain open to all participants who are able to maintain a 13:45 per-mile pace (based on the time when the last runner crosses the start line).

The marathon returned in November for its 50th edition with a reduced participation of 25,010 runners, who were required to submit proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result in the 48 hours prior to the race.

Organizers hope the 2022 race will bring the event back to its former standard, including the restoration of on-course entertainment throughout the five-borough course.
Runners will have to show proof of full vaccination to enter.
“Every year, runners from all over the world come to New York City because there’s no better race than the New York City Marathon,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement released by NYRR. “This race is the strongest proof of New York’s unrelenting spirit and determination, and we are proud to announce that, this year, we’ll be back at full capacity.”
How to get an entry for the 2022 NYC Marathon?
NYRR will open a registration lottery for runners in March. There are also opportunities to register through charities and fundraising organizations associated with the marathon.
Runners scheduled to participate in the cancelled 2020 race had the option to re-register in 2021, 2022 or 2023.
