In a candid interview with RadarOnline, the Eyes Wide Shut star revealed how the deaths of her parents have left her grappling with night terrors and a deeper understanding of life’s fragility.
Kidman‘s mother, Janelle, passed away at 84 in September, following the death of her father, Antony, a decade earlier at age 75. Reflecting on these losses, Kidman spoke about the heavy emotional burden she carries.
“Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you. And loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human,” she shared.
The 57-year-old actress explained that her grief often manifests as night terrors, waking her up at 3 a.m., gasping and crying.
“It’s a wake-up-at-3-am crying and gasping kind of thing. If you’re in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I’m in it. Fully in it,” Kidman said, describing the intense emotions that accompany her reflections on mortality and motherhood.
One particularly poignant memory involved discovering a CD of her father singing. While Kidman felt compelled to listen, her mother couldn’t bear the emotional weight of it.
“It was like being stabbed in the gut,” Kidman admitted, highlighting the bittersweet nature of holding on to memories.
