The mystery of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) has taken a new twist, thanks to New JerseyMayor Michael Melham.
The Belleville official recently shared intriguing footage showing what appears to be glowing orbs transforming into drones over Long Island, adding fuel to an ongoing debate about the strange sightings.
Mysterious footage raises questions
Mayor Melham posted the videos on Twitter., describing the phenomena.
“Glowing orbs turning into drones. Verified not to be planes via flight tracker. They hover. Glow. Then move,” he captioned the video.
One video, filmed with an infrared camera, shows a bright orb shifting into what looks like a fixed-wing aircraft. Another clip, captured over Long Island’s North Shore, depicts a luminous white orb gradually morphing into a drone-like object. Dan Oliverio, who documents UAP sightings through his Instagram account @OurStrangeSkies, provided the footage directly to Melham.
Strangely, the North Shore video bears a timestamp of January 28, 2025-six days after Melham shared it online. Oliverio explained the discrepancy, blaming faulty binoculars used during the recording.
Melham has been vocal about the need for answers.
Speaking to NewsNation, he revealed that drone sightings have been reported across New Jersey and Long Island since mid-November.
“Here in New Jersey, we are about 500 mayors strong, and we are still waiting for answers because our residents are gravely concerned over what’s flying just over our homes,” he said.
While Melham believes the drones are likely experimental technology from the U.S. government, he criticized the lack of clarity.
“The fact that [President Trump] doesn’t seem to have many details tells me it’s probably not a national security threat or extraterrestrial in nature,” he speculated.
President Trump, who previously vowed to disclose the truth about UAPs, has yet to fulfill that promise.
“Why don’t we find out immediately? I can’t imagine it’s an enemy… Maybe they were testing things.”
The Biden administration has downplayed the incidents, attributing most to hobbyist drones, commercial planes, or stars. However, Melham remains hopeful for a more transparent disclosure.
“I do think we’re going to get some kind of disclosure soon.”
