Paige VanZant is ready for a fresh start in combat sports, and her fans couldn’t be more excited! After years away from MMA, the 30-year-old fighter is making waves by signing with the up-and-coming Global Fight League (GFL).
The announcement comes as the league prepares for its highly anticipated inaugural draft on January 24, with events set to kick off in April. VanZant, who hasn’t fought in MMA since her July 2020 loss to Amanda Ribas via first-round armbar, is eager to step back into the cage under a new banner.
Known for her high-energy fighting style, VanZant went 5-4 during her UFC tenure before exploring other ventures, including bare-knuckle boxing, Power Slap, and a boxing exhibition under the Misfits Boxing label.
Despite a mixed bag of results, including a split draw in her most recent boxing outing and a win in Power Slap, VanZant’s determination to succeed has never wavered.

VanZant joins a star-studded GFL
Her signing is part of GFL’s bold strategy to reshape the combat sports landscape. The promotion has already assembled a jaw-dropping roster of talent, including eight former UFC champions and 60 female fighters spanning five divisions from featherweight to atomweight.
VanZant isn’t the only notable name joining GFL-former Bellator featherweight champion Julia Budd and Invicta FC veterans Jessica Penne, Tonya Evinger, and Talita Bernardo are also onboard.
But GFL isn’t stopping with star fighters. The promotion is bringing in seasoned expertise, too. Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will step into a managerial role, working alongside his longtime coach, Javier Mendez of American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), as part of the coaching staff.
