A dramatic story has to come to light in the courts of Barcelona, where a woman will face trial next Tuesday, April 9. The case involves genital mutilation.
The prosecution’s indictment reveals that the woman, whose age has not been disclosed, had a romantic relationship with her boss for four years before committing the act.
However, what began as a normal dinner at a bar in Sant Andreu de la Barca on May 31, 2021, ended in a chilling assault. During the encounter, the woman covered her partner’s eyes with a cloth, claiming to feel embarrassed while performing fellatio.
That’s when she took advantage of the moment to perpetrate the attack, employing a knife to quickly amputate his genitals.
The story continues with the arrest of the accused, who claimed that she had been the victim of non-consensual sexual intercourse. However, the prosecution has disregarded these claims and is seeking a 10-year prison sentence for the crime of genital mutilation.
In addition to the prison sentence, a restraining order of 250 meters from the victim, projected for a decade, has been requested.
What does the law say?
In Spain, genital mutilation is a serious crime punishable by prison sentences of between 6 and 12 years, according to Article 149 of the Penal Code. Spanish law does not distinguish between:
- Total or partial mutilation of the external genital organs.
- The practice is performed for cultural, religious or any other reasons.
“Whoever causes to another, by any means or procedure, the loss or uselessness of a main organ or member, or of a sense, impotence, sterility, a serious deformity, or a serious somatic or psychic illness, shall be punished with imprisonment of six to 12 years,” the BOE explains.
