While the celebration from Sunday’s resounding win in Super Bowl LIX will carry on throughout the week, the Philadelphia Eagles will eventually turn their sights to an accelerated offseason, with the new league year about a month away.
GM Howie Roseman and Co. assembled one of the most all-around dominant rosters in recent memory this past season. The focus now will be on keeping the core of this squad together, especially on defense.
The Eagles have some tough decisions looming, as they’ll need to create cap space to bring back multiple impact stars like EDGE Josh Sweat and linebacker Zack Baun. Philly is projected to have around $13 million in effective cap space this offseason, which ranks 21st in the NFL.

Here are the definitions for each of the NFL’s free-agent classifications:
Unrestricted free agent (UFA): Any player with four or more accrued seasons and an expired contract; free to negotiate and sign with any team.
Restricted free agent (RFA): A player with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. RFAs are free to negotiate and sign with any team, but their original team can offer them one of various qualifying offers (“tenders”) that come with the right of first refusal and/or draft-pick compensation. If the tender is withdrawn by a team, the RFA becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Exclusive rights free agent (ERFA): Any player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum (based on his credited seasons), the player cannot negotiate with other teams.
When does 2025 free agency begin?
The NFL’s 2025 free agency begins on March 10 at noon (EST), which officially opens the two-day negotiating period where teams are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents. The window closes on March 12 at 4 p.m., which marks the official start of the new league year.
