David De Gea’s lead in the race for the 2017/18 Premier League Golden Glove is looking more vulnerable after the Matchweek 29 fixtures.
Results from the weekend mean that four goalkeepers are within only two clean sheets of one another.
For the third league match in a row, the Manchester United goalkeeper did not keep a clean sheet, even if his superb save from Christian Benteke helped his team complete a 3-2 stoppage-time win at Crystal Palace.
The Spaniard remains on 15 clean sheets and now has three rivals breathing down his neck.
Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea allowed Ederson to go level with his opposite number on Sunday, Thibaut Courtois, on 13 clean sheets.
The pair were joined on that tally by Hugo Lloris, who shut out Huddersfield Town for Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.
Who can gain upper hand?
The gap could be just one clean sheet this weekend with De Gea set to face a free-scoring Liverpool side who have been kept out in only one of the past 12 PL matches.
De Gea did stop the Merseysiders from scoring in October, however. His block with his left foot from Joel Matip was the standout save from the match.
Courtois and Ederson will face Crystal Palace and Stoke City respectively, whose combined total of 55 goals scored (27 for Palace and 28 for Stoke) is 12 lower than Liverpool’s tally of 67.
Lloris must become the first goalkeeper in 11 Premier League matches to stop AFC Bournemouth from scoring if he is to move up to 14 clean sheets.
