After his hat-trick against West Ham United Erling Haaland has an incredible 70 goals from 69 Premier League matches as well as already seven from only three matches this season.
So how does his total compare with the Premier League goalscoring greats and how long might it take the Manchester City striker to match them?
Haaland’s treble, his second in a row in the Premier League, moved him above renowned forwards such as Duncan Ferguson, Luis Suarez, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well as team-mate Kevin De Bruyne into joint 68th in the all-time goalscoring standings.
This puts him alongside Manchester United legend and Premier League Hall of Fame inductee Eric Cantona on 70 goals.

What’s remarkable is the number of matches it has taken Haaland to reach these heights. He has featured in only 69 matches since joining City in the summer of 2022. The fewest matches played of those goalscorers around him is Suarez’s 110 for Liverpool.
Only Suarez also is anywhere near Haaland’s incredible minutes per goal ratio of 80.01, with 138.8 minutes per goal.
So how does Haaland compare with those players at the top of the standings?
Haaland’s predecessor at City, Sergio Aguero, is closest for minutes per goal, scoring every 108 minutes on average.
Beyond that even scoring legends such as Thierry Henry and Harry Kane took 50 per cent longer to score a goal on average in the Premier League than the Norwegian.

Haaland needs another 190 goals to match the total of 260 of the Premier League’s all-time scorer, Alan Shearer.
If he were to maintain his rate of 80 minutes a goal, this would mean that it would take Haaland 15,200 minutes, or about 169 matches (not counting stoppage time).
In terms of seasons that would be another three-and-a-half campaigns after this one. And, worryingly for those above him in the rankings, as well as opposing defences, Haaland says that after a summer of rest, he feels ready to set more scoring records.
“I feel good, I feel energised,” he said after the West Ham match. “I had a long vacation and pre-season. Now I’m ready for more.”
