Colorado-based Horizon Organic Dairy, LLC is recalling a total of 19,688 cases of dairy products due to the “potential for premature product spoilage during its shelf life”.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Class II recall notice on January 17, although the original recall date is marked as December 13, 2024.
A Class II recall, the second most serious level of risk, indicates “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
How to identify dairy products that are being recalled
The ongoing recall is for the Horizon milk brand, which affects 8-ounce outdated whole milk cartons sold both individually and in 12-packs, and were distributed to retailers in Arizona, California and Nevada.
In addition, the FDA lists the following identifying factors:
- Product Description: Horizon Organic Whole Milk, 8 oz, Pack of 12. (Refrigerate after opening)
- UPC: 3663207113 (pack of 12); 3663207127 (single unit)
- Lot code expiry: BEST BEFORE/BY 03 MAR 2025, 04 MAR 2025, 06 MAR 2025, 07 MAR 2025
- Best before: 3 MARCH 2025, 4 MARCH 2025, 6 MARCH 2025, 7 MARCH 2025

While neither the FDA nor Horizon have provided instructions on how to proceed if customers have the recalled products, it is generally recommended not to consume them and return them to the place of purchase, as stated in a CVS Pharmacy notice.
