Rey Misterio Sr., who is the uncle of the active wrestling legend Rey Mysterio, has died at the age of 66.
Misterio Sr. began his career in the sport all the way back in 1976 and remained active for 33 years before he made the decision to bow out in 2009, eventually being inducted into the HOF in 2023.

“We send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.”
What was Rey Misterio Sr.’s cause of death?
Lopez Dias is part of a huge family in the sport of entertainment wrestling and is one of the defining members of that legacy, going on to secure multiple titles across separate divisions as well as introducing his nephew to the sport too.
His nephew, who also goes by the moniker of Rey Mysterio, is regarded as one of the most iconic and greatest competitors in the WWE and has become heavyweight champion twice as well as WWE champion once.
Lopez Dias also trained Dominik Mysterio, a 27-year-old from San Diego who is the his grand-nephew, and competes in The Judgment Day series after becoming a two-time NXT North America Champion.
Lopez Dias’ cause of death has not yet been revealed but the news comes just one week after his brother, Robert Gutierrez, died at the age of 76. Gutierrez was the father of the highly successful Rey Misterio Jr.
